RECENT SHOWS

The last few months have seen the RBI team exhibiting our products at various shows around the world. These have included Interschutz/Interpolice in Germany, Public Sector Security: Major Incidents – the Joint Response at Shrivenham, Wiltshire, UK and ALEA in the USA.
INTERSCHUTZ/INTERPOLICE

June 2005 saw our first attendance at the Interschutz/Interpolice Show in Hanover, Germany, and what a show it was. Held in an area of 93,124 square meters we were one of the 1,385 exhibitors showcasing our products.

We were delighted to share a stand with Dutch company, Zumro Res Q, who were most hospitable both for the duration of the show and during the evenings/early mornings! The Red Box team, consisting of Allan Ross, Adrian and Paul Jackson, were extremely impressed with the quality and range of Zumro Res Q’s products, particularly the NT Res Q-Bags, which provide a radically different approach to pneumatic lifting. (www.zumroresq.com)

Interschutz gave us a fantastic opportunity to show some of our products to approximately 140,000 visitors, of which 95% were “trade.” This included the Red Box range of portable power supply units, the Robo-Cam, the Wristeye, Sentry Cam, and our Snake Cam and also the brand new additions to the range, the RB Micro Recorder, and the Colour DSP CCD Infra-red Camera. Attendees were from all over the World, including a surge in those from Asia. We understand from the organisers that the increase of Asian visitors was up 127% over the 2000 event held in Augsburg. We were very pleased with the quality of the organisation of the event and it was great to meet up again with some of our customers and also to generate some really good leads, which we are very hopeful of converting into future business.

Another plus for us at Red Box was that we could meet up with our newly appointed Korean agents, Mr Ma Wook and Mr Kim Yong Hyun from SaeJuTech (www.saeju.com) and to put some faces to the names. All in all we can’t speak highly enough of Interschutz /Interpolice and look forward to the next event in 2010.
PUBLIC SECTOR SECURITY: MAJOR INCIDENTS – THE JOINT RESPONSE
On 18 and 19 July we attended the Public Sector Security Symposium: Major Incidents – The Joint Response, held at The Defence Academy, Shrivenham, Wiltshire. Delegates from industry and the Services attended sessions over the two day period on topics such as The Joint Approach, Major Incidents, Facing up to Reality, and Joint Aspirations.

There were numerous opportunities, during the breaks, to visit the exhibitors, of which we were one. We had a very favourable response from some of the Police Authorities, who showed a great deal of interest in the Snake Cam.
ALEA
On 21, 22 and 23 July Allan Ross and Paul Jackson were exhibiting our products at the 35th Airborne Law Enforcement Association Conference and Expo, held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in the USA. Of course the main thrust of this particular exhibition, as far as we were concerned, was our portable power packs, however, we also took the opportunity to display our search and inspection camera systems. Although personally many of the officers and pilots may never actually have a requirement for our camera products, many of them showed interest and passed on information to other departments such as SWAT.
As is often the case with this type of event, we were able to make several commercial contacts, to include linking our Wristeye to helicopter downlink transmission, where we already run at the same frequency. We also met companies with whom we may form future partnerships with regard to thermal imaging and possible distribution of our RB Micro Recorder in the USA.

Red Box’s Production Manager, Paul Jackson says “Overall I felt that the show was a very worthwhile experience particularly from the company’s perspective and it also gave us a chance to meet some of our existing and future customers to showcase our new products, which received an extremely positive response. Many thanks to the Show organisers and a big thank you to everyone who showed their support by attending the event.”
CELEBRATION OF OUR MOVE TO FERNACRE BUSINESS PARK

As reported in our last newsletter, we have now settled into our new premises. We are very proud of our new facilities and therefore held a celebratory launch, which was attended by all of our staff and as many of our customers, suppliers and distributors that were able to join us.

The official launch ceremony was undertaken by Past Mayor of Romsey, Dorothy Baverstock, and we were very grateful that she was able to spend time with us.

All of our guests received a guided tour of our comprehensive facilities and then partook of a celebratory glass of champagne and an extremely good buffet provided by a local public house, The Dukes Head.

If you haven’t yet managed to visit us, we would be extremely pleased to show you around, just give us a call on +44 (0)1794 518888.
OUR RECENT SUCCESSES

RBSC RANGE

UK company, Red Box International Limited, are extremely proud that the demand for products in their RBSC range of AC – DC power converters has continued unabated, with the diversity of these high grade, portable, continuous output 28V DC power supplies surpassing all expectations.

Such confidence in the product is backed up by the fact that the Ministry of Defence felt that the company’s latest rack mounted version of the RBSC 150 would prove to be an ideal way to power their latest radio communications equipment. Following initial trials of the product, the UK Ministry of Defence have now taken delivery of a substantial number of units.

Red Box International’s Managing Director, Allan Ross, says “We are delighted that the Ministry of Defence have purchased our RBSC 150’s and are given to understand that they are at present in active deployment with our forces in the Middle East. The feedback to date has been exceedingly positive and as a company we take pride in the fact that one of our products is providing assistance in what are often difficult and dangerous situations.”

The power supplies have been designed to be lightweight for high portability in hangars and workshops, or can be rack mounted or wall mounted. Input is 190V-260V (110V units are available on request) single phase AC and a stable voltage is maintained in extreme conditions. These supplies will provide reliable high grade, stable, 28V power for powering communication systems, general maintenance, aircraft gear servicing, avionics work, crew training or weapons system checks on aircraft or armoured vehicles.

EXPANDING THE USE OF THE SNAKE CAM
Hampshire County Council have recently purchased four Snake Cam kits, which they intend to use particularly when searching for asbestos in their buildings.

Snake Cam units have also been purchased by universities, scientific companies and various other local authorities who have seen their potential for use in many different ways. That is not to say that the Snake Cam’s original use as search and rescue equipment, will not continue, but we at Red Box are very excited that others can see the multi-purpose use of our equipment.

During the week of 11th July Red Box’s Adrian Jackson and Phil Horn visited many of our UK Snake Cam customers in order to demonstrate the new additions to the Snake Cam system. The visits were a huge success, with a great deal of interest being generated, however, due to the limited time available during the week, another demonstration week is planned for later in the year. If you wish to book a visit contact Phil Horn on our usual number.

NEW PRODUCTS
As reported earlier the new wall/rack mounted RBSC150 units are now available.
2-4ft POLE

At present we have in development a new pole attachment for use with either the Snake Cam or the Wristeye systems. The 2’-4’ version has been designed to reduce the size of the pole, making it ideal for loft searches, but its primary use will be for tactical operations, allowing a team of armed police to be able to see into all the blind corner of a room before stepping in. This pole has been designed with the kind assistance of S019.

NEW WRISTCAM UNIT
We are pleased to announce that all modifications have now been made to the prototype of our Wristcam unit. Production of the first batch began at the beginning of August and we hope it will be available on the market from 1st October 2005.

MP VISITS ROMSEY COMPANY, RED BOX INTERNATIONAL LIMITED
Liberal Democrat MP for Romsey, Hampshire, Sandra Gidley, made a special visit to the newly opened premises of local company, Red Box International Limited (RBI), at Fernacre Business Park, Romsey,

RBI was formed by Managing Director, Allan Ross, in 1993 and began by supplying Portable Power Supply Units to the aviation industry. The company now distributes its products to over sixty-four countries world-wide and has continued to expand its range, which includes the extremely successful “Snake Cam” product, which is used by Search and Rescue Teams, the Police, Customs authorities, and Fire Services, all over the world. Mrs Gidley was fascinated with the product demonstrations provided RBI’s Paul Jackson, and was keen to learn of the diversity of usage, which has included the search for survivors in disaster situations, searches for explosive devices and underwater searches.

Mrs Gidley says “Frequently when I meet with local businesses I am asked to assist with various issues they are facing, which of course I do. It was therefore refreshing to visit a family business that started over ten years ago in a garage, now selling products world-wide and which appears to have a really bright future.”

RBI’s Managing Director, Allan Ross, says “My wife Frances and stepsons Adrian and Paul Jackson, along with our staff, are extremely grateful to Mrs Gidley for taking time out of her busy schedule to visit our purpose built premises. Mrs Gidley had a genuine interest in our products and was interested to learn a little more about what we do at RBI and to see how our products are used and to talk about our future developments.” Before proceeding to her Constituency “Surgery”, Mrs Gidley joined the RBI team for lunch provided by Southampton caterers, “A’Round About Noon.”
EXCITING ADDITIONS TO THE RED BOX INTERNATIONAL PRODUCT RANGE
Red Box International are proud to announce the launch of the Colour DSP CCD Infra-red camera, with night vision and high resolution, and also the RB Micro, a pocket sized surveillance recorder.

Both are invaluable complimentary products to the extremely successful “Snake Cam’ range, however, the exceptional RB Micro can also be used on its own and will capture up to six hours of single channel video and audio without recharging. Recordings are downloaded from the removable CompactFlash card in AVI format for compatibility with many media players.

What makes the RB Micro Recorder different is its size and weight. Even smaller than a deck of cards, each recording is time and date stamped and the verification software checks downloaded recordings to ensure they have not been accessed or edited following their creation, making it an ideal choice for body worn and other covert applications.

Red Box International’s Managing Director, Allan Ross, says “We believe that because of its size and weight, coupled with the fact that it has the ability to record both audio and video using a rechargeable battery source, means that the RB Micro Recorder has many uses in a variety of environments. The infra-red camera also enables you to see without being seen, a vital tool when doing loft searches or in covert situations. We envisage that both products will be of invaluable assistance to the military, fire services, police, and in search and rescue situations. We are confident that users of our “Snake Cam” will find the RB Micro Recorder and the DSCP CCD Infra-red camera provides tremendous additional benefits.”
RBI TEAM MEMBER PROFILE
In this edition of the RBI newsletter we would like to introduce you to another member of our team – Dave Wortley. Dave may not be known to all of you, but he is nevertheless an important member of the RBI team.

Dave has been with RBI for over four years and manages the production of the hand portable power products. When Dave joined the company in 2000 the production was undertaken in Allan Ross’s garage – how times have changed!

In his previous life Dave took early retirement from computer giant, IBM, then undertook four years management consultancy with one of their outsourcing companies, there then followed four years of leisure and pleasure before an approach to work two days per week for RBI. This then increased to four days following the retirement at seventy of Bob Peach and Dave has never looked back since.

Dave is married to Anne and they have two grown up children, Sean (30) and Ciara (29). Dave is very much an outdoor man who loves fly-fishing for Salmon and Trout and walking, particularly in the Lake District.

Adrian Jackson said “Dave’s attention to detail is a huge strength to RBI and since he and his team have been constructing the power packs we have never had a single unit returned.”
